No harness for JBL?

No harness for JBL?

Postby bparker » Mon Feb 14, 2005 7:35 pm

I went up to best buy and got a harness they said was for my car (02 SE),
and of course it was wrong. Way wrong. Then I took it back and asked
to speak to someone in their road shop, and they told me that cars with
factory stereo systems (like JBL) can't be used with an aftermarket radio
because it 'runs a weird ohm load', and he said you have to rewire all the
speakers and you can't use a harness.

Is this guy on crack, or what do I need to do to find a working harness?
I have stock JBL and do NOT want to bypass the amp or buy new speakers.

P.S. Would this do me any good?

This guy is a moron, dont listen to him or anyone at circuit city and the like. Scosche sells a wiring harness for our cars, part TA02. The thing is, if you are installing a new HU (powered I assume) you WANT to bypass the JBL amp. This harness will do that for you. This is the one you want.

That is the same wrong part I bought from best buy. That harness will not work on JBL. I need someone to respond who's actually done it with JBL.

BTW I'm installing the Kenwood DDX-7015. Here is a picture of the harness in the car:

I have JBL. Had JBL I mean...

The harness you buy, if you bought the right one, does not plug into the same plug as what you remove from the stock JBL HU. There are two other white plugs hidden behind the dash, back and to the right of the stock HU. These are the stock radio harnesses that go right to the speakers instead of the JBL amplifier behind the glove box.

Ah thanks. Alrighty, I got the harness wired up and everything. I even checked both 12v sources (ign/acc) with the ground wire on the harness,
and both are receiving 12.5v when I have the key on ACC, but the unit does not power up. Maybe you HAVE to have the parking brake sensor plugged in?

Yeah, parking brake sensor. If you think people get distracted by cell phones while driving, imagine watching a movie! Nice HU by the way, wish I had the money for a touchscreen. G/L with the rest of your install.

OK, install is 99% done, just gotta figure out how to keep the parking brake sensor thingy on so I can see the video. I don't even know where I should be putting it. Can someone help me out? This is the last step before I'm finished! :)

Nevermind, I just put a ground to it and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks for all your help guys, I might try to snap some pics tomorrow if I get some time. Install was pretty straightforward if you know to NOT use the direct factory harness from the radio, and to hookup the parking brake sensor. Assuming I knew that already, install couldn't have been more than 45 minutes. Looks great!

P.S. Now if I could just figure out how to stop the security LED from flashing when the car is off...

I know this an older topic now, but I just picked up a Kenwood DDX7017.

I've seen other posts about how to bypass the parking brake sensor wire, but assuming I don't want to bypass the sensor, can someone tell me where the parking brake wire is (location/color, etc) for a 2000 SLE? -- Thanks

My question is why would you not want to bypass it?
