Sony headunits are good (high end ones) if you plan to upgrade NOTHING ELSE. They make the stock coax sound pretty nice... but Eclipse still takes the bank =D

I bought a pioneer premier 4 years ago. It's been in two of my cars, and is now in my moms Explorer. I bought another premier for my Solara. FANTASTIC units. Never had any problems with them and easy to use. It's the only units that I will purchase now. My first unit was a Sony and it was terrible. I got several CD errors and couldn't get my disc to eject. Got rid of it within a year to get my Premier. BEST decision I made.

Hey you experts, a related question for 'ya-

I'm happy with the speakers so far, but the stock head unit briefly fuzzed out a while ago, making lots of static-y noises and what not, even while turned off. It came back to normal, but it makes me want to get a new unit.

So- I need something that will sound nice with the JBLs that come stock, though I will likely upgrade the speakers later. I'm looking to spend about $200, plus install (I can't do it myself, I don't think, unless someone wants to help me?). MP3 playback would be nice, because I don't own an iPod, haha.

Okay, thanks for any help on this.

You can do the install your self.

http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=15629

Is very helpful. I myself thought it was beyond my skill level. The only thing that takes some time is splicing the two harness to the aftermarket's harness.

I went to a Local Tweeter Car Stereo Shop. They sold me the harness and the din pocket to fill the empty space below my new HU.

It's really easy just take your time and ask alot of questions on the boards.

I would suggest an Alpine or Pioneer. I have a Pioneer DEH 7700 It's really nice great control and graphics, its got XM and SIRIUS controls, it can control the IPOD. 3 sets of out puts. Its got all the goodies plays MP3s.
