Putting Gen 1/1.5 JBL System In Another Toyota

Okay, here's the deal - a good friend of mine bought a base-model, Spartan Special Tacoma last year. Four-cylinder, manual tranny... cheap reliable transportation. Anyhoo, he's just got the stereo/tape deck... and I was thinking, how hard would it be to put my Solara's stock JBL stereo / amp in his car? If I'm not mistaken, the little amp got its power feed from the wire harness that went to the head unit. Is this correct? I know I'd need a place to mount the amp, the wire harness that is attached to the right near the speaker, and such. My only concern is where the amp's power came from - was it a feed from the other stuff, or something separate? The unit itself only has two wire harness connections, the input and output. Anyone tried this before?
