Tweeter grilles?

Postby OKANG » Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:33 pm

I'm itching to replace the stock JBL tweeters, but I'm concerned about the grilles. Most aftermarket tweeters come with grilles built-in and then there would be the stock grilles on top of them. Would this have any acoustic effect at all? If so, any ideas on how I can avoid this? I've tried removing grilles from some aftermarket tweeters before and it was a disaster. Not using the stock grilles isn't really an option either because it looks horrible.

I got MB Quart Premiums and all 1" MB Quart tweeters are able to be mounted exactly like stock. All it took was taking the nuts off the back of the stock tweeters and putting the MB Quarts in and rebolting them. No change needed to stock grills. I am sure many aftermarket tweeters are like this.

It's a valid idea, but not a very good one because I don't want to the presence of a stupid grille to determine what components I buy. If having two grilles doesn't affect things, then I just won't worry about it.

Yes, I've removed the stock tweeters before. Mine don't have a built-in grille, just a plastic guard.

Yes, I know how to mount aftermarket tweeters and I know it doesn't require modifying the stock grille on the door.
