Active versus Passive Crossover

Agreed, but on this one horse island I live on I could only go by recommendations and boy was I misled. I was hesitant but foolish. I should have learned my lesson long ago from a pair of Boston Acoustic metal tweeters I had. Probably never again.

It only becomes harsh if you are playing music that accents highs @ (eclipse) volumes of 70+ (44 being a typical mid-volume level, 90 max)

Well, I did it this evening and it worked fine. The HU amp is more than capable of driving those Focal tweeters. I really like the added control I have over the crossover points plus I can now control time alignment for the tweeters and mids separately. I should have thought of this before.

Can someone verify that what this person said is true?

Blowing speakers is ok w/ me. But blowing an amp is annoying.

Everything there looks correct.

Don't worry about the difference in ohms between the front chanels seeing 8 ohms and the other channel getting 4 ohms, it will be fine. In fact the amp will be running cooler now on the tweeter section.

I would just remove the rear speakers all together. The fronts are going to have more than enough output now that you will be wiring active.

That's the plan now. It makes total sense. I was just worried about power, but DA e-mailed me regarding power requirements and it's actually

25-50w RMS for the tweeters @ 8 ohms
75-125w RMS for the mid-range @ 4 ohms

Good stuff! Time to find that voltmeter =]

I just emailed Eclipse to see if they can tell me what RMS 8 ohms would be at (85w RMS @ 4) so it's probably 60ish

Did you email techsupport? I've found they never answer... always have to email sales.

I e-mailed Tech Support for both Diamond and Eclipse.

Diamond answered within 14 hours (next business day in the morning around 9 AM PST).

The last time I e-mailed SALES @ Eclipse, it took them about a week to respond. At least they responded... I'll be waiting a week. After that, I'm just gonna call in =] or charge into their corp. office disguised as a Lexus worker coming in for an emergency exchange unit

My questions were answered by the owner or bcae1. I'll be wiring up tomorrow after I go give my friend's hot wife lessons on how to use her navi :D
