as non eloquent as he is, pro is the only one with any real info so far. the amp cuts out and every one jumps on him to buy bigger wire and a cap? if you're going to give electrical advice, know what you are talking about.
a boss "1000 WATT AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"(!) first of all, if it says "1000 watt amp" anywhere on it, its a peak rating. Divide by 2 and you get the RMS: 500. Then you look at the brand: BOSS. They rate their amps at prolly over 20 volts, which means in a car, its lucky to put out 2/3's of its rating. Now were down to around 340wrms which can run on 8awg with no problem.
Oh, and also wire is never "power robbing", if you try to run too much current through it, it will over-heat, melt through its insulation, and either cause a fire or blow a fuse before you loose any noticible voltage.
And don't get me started on caps.
having said that.
When an amp is cutting out, the first thing I do is look at all my connections, including the ground. Usualy you can tell if its the ground b/c a bad ground will cause distortion. Make sure no wires are touching, or grounded that aren't supposed to be grounded. If you find a something wrong w/ any of those things, thats prolly it. If not, its most likely something bad internaly in the amp (which is known to happen to boss) Throw it in the garbage and start over.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.
