blown fuses/bad input stage

blown fuses/bad input stage

Postby Callen » Thu Jul 15, 2004 9:27 am

My amp's blowin' fuses every time I turn the HU on (remote to remote wire). However when I turn it on connecting the battery lead to the remote,, it runs at a steady 12.4 (obviously with no sound). I did a little bit of research and found that this might be a "bad input stage". Ugh,,,, research over the internet didn't do much from there searching for an array of things at other audio forum sites and google.

First: Does anyone know the best route to go on this?

Second: does anyone know any really good car audio forums (besides this one!).

Third: What happens when a magnet is introduced to the grounding wire of the Head unit,,,, can that make the amp short?

okay, from what u told me over im

you should have had a better ground spot-- not the frame that holds the head unit in

and when you were screwing the head unit in, it touched two sources of metal that sent an electrical signal through the screw driver

sounds like you need to have your headunit repaired or get a new one

why does it run obviously with no sound? you should get sound as long as the rca's are in and the amp turns on

i'm posting my responses on here and not back to you on im so other ppl can add on or learn or correct me or whatever

get a long small wire, stick a small fuse on it, make sure it's safe for the amp to see 12volts+ to the remote turn on, connect it to the amps remote turn on and wire up a switch
turn it on and off when you want to run the amp

this is quite stupid, but it will work
if you leave it on by mistake, your battery will drain

get the head unit fixed
or get a new one and be more careful during the install
