Help: No more clutch :(

So today after work, got into my car and my clutch was gone like a ninja. I swear I never knew your clutch can be finished so suddenly. In the morning everything was perfect and few hours later I have to press down clutch at 75% to get to the friction point..

For you standard guys, what are your experiences about finished clutches? Was is gone suddenly or gradually?

EDIT: So today my clutch is ultra soft and cant even shift. Took my mom's car to work. This is pissing me off. My clutch can't be gone in 1 day. Someone knows how to make it last a little longer? New master cylinder?

In my last car the slave cylinder started leaking, and i just kept driving it. About 6 months later it finally started to slip at WOT in 3rd and 4th...about 4 months after, I had to start the car in gear and shift without the clutch...lemme tell you that was some scary sh*t, especially in traffic lol.

Edit:: The clutch in the solara started slipping a few months ago...one day it was fine, the next day I went WOT and it was slipping. I thought it was the wet road, but nope...it was the clutch. Now it only slips if I do like 6 WOT pulls back to back, but I have a replacement sitting on my parts shelf

Holy crap, today when I was going to work, I couldn't even fkin shift the gears. Had to turn the engine off and put it in gear then start the engine to bring the car back home. This is not normal, must be a bolt or something because yesterday morning everything was fine and my clutch can't be done in a day >.<

This sounds reasonable, that the hydraulic system isn't functioning correctly. mig0s makes no mention of slippage, just that it's hard to shift into gear.

Same thing happened to me a month ago. The pedal became super soft and i was only able to get it into 2nd and reverse. But after driving it for a bit it went back to normal.
I think it the clutch master cylinder kuz my clutch is 2 years old only.

dude same thing happened to me today. Clutch is SUPER soft, couldnt even shift. How did you fix it? Is it ok now?

how's the fluid level? Sounds like there could be air in the system

My clutch went about a month and a half ago. Since I bought the car it had a loud squeak when I pushed in the pedal and the only other sign I had was the pedal softening up a few times over the last year or so. When it finally went the pedal just dropped to the floor one day and I could not select any gears.

If the plate itself is worn completely then you have to change it. Remember to use the Toyota throw out bearing. The shop that did my clutch did not use it, despite me telling them twice, and the aftermarket throw out bearing went bad in 2 weeks. They were pissed but had to pull down everything again, replace with a OEM bearing and rent me a car for a day. It was funny because in those two weeks the pedal felt spongy and the engagement point was very low. They changed the master cylinder and slave and ran a hard line between them to try and fix the problem but with no success. I kept telling them about the bearing but I guess if you are a "professional" you don't need advice from a amateur and finally the bearing started to "chirp" proving that it was bad.

fluid level is alright so its not the master cylinder. Do you guys know where is the slave cylinder?

should be your clutch master cylinder, Mine was just replaced along with the slave cylinder, if the fluid level is still topped off doesnt necesarily mean it cant be the master cylinder if its not leaking on the outside. Sometimes the inside seals rip which causes it to leak internally.

My slave cylinder was fine but i replaced it anyway.

migos i know what you mean dude from one day to another it was just gone. I got the same thing. I was driving to the store, it was totally fine then out of nowhere the pedal hit the floor and i couldnt even put it in gear, i had to wait a good 5 min. before the pedal became stiff again and i was able to make it home. but yeah i left it sitting for two days started it up and the clutch felt good a little while later the same thing started happening.

sounds like whats a happening to you. should be nothing major. i would say replace the slave first. Thats the easiest. If its not the slave then its the master cylinder.

either way shouldnt be an expensive fix. My slave cylinder was $15 bucks. My clutch master cylinder was $50 so its not an expensive job. On the other hand if you would like to go OEM then it will be a little more expensive I called the toyota dealership when the problem happened and they qouted me $135.00 and i had to wait a week before the part came in. I didnt even ask about the slave since i figured it would probably run 50-80 bucks. So i called several different parts stores nobody had it. Finally i was driving around getting lunch by work and noticed this random parts store i got their number from their window called them up and they had it in stock so i picked it up lol.

heres a pic of where the slave cylinder should be;

^^ thanks for your reply man. Tomorrow I'll try to bleed my clutch by the slave cylinder and see what happens.

Also, I heard that the slave cylinder is the same for Camry, rav4, celica, and most of other Toyotas right? Is the Master cylinder the same also?

Wow i thought the fluid was full but it was just dirt... it's empty :S I'll go get some brake fluide to see how long it leaks again.

To bleed the clutch, do you have to take that thing at the end of the slave cylinder off? I don't see how can you compress the slave..
