02 solara SLE V6 muffler hanger question

Postby feniks » Sat Feb 12, 2011 8:17 pm

today when working on a few things in rear end suspension and brakes I found something odd around the muffler.

Part in question is the bracket for Exhaust Pipe Support or a Muffler hanger located right behind the rear right (passenger) wheel.

Here is a pic. It looks like it either got bent or dislocated or is detached? Also that hook thing (part of bracket) is rubbing on metal part sticking out of support.

Big picture here:

can someone shoot a pic of theirs or tell me what's wrong here? am I having a mismatched bracket frm some other model?

thank you.

ok ill go look at mine and post back....

my bracket looks the same but mine isnt pushed back that.
it sits about halfway between where yours is and centered.
will get a pic later if you want, just dont have time right now, off to work.
i think something is pushing your whole exhaust pipe toward the rear a couple inches, check all of those hangers, i believe if any one of the them is broken/ripped it could cause this. but its NOT supposed to be like that.

thanks!

so basically the part is correct, just something is offset. I think someone in past may have hit the exhaust tip when backing the car up into something. so either the whole exhaust is moved toward front and brackets stayed in original positions or brackets moved forward and exhaust stayed in original position. looks weird I agree.

will check other hangers and brackets, there is quite a few of them total, but I think other suspicious would the one most far out (the other side of muffler).

in case I need to replace both muffler hangers if it starts bothering me too much, do you think I would need new hanger and bracket or justhanger or just bracket ... or new exhaust haha :)

i think you need to find what is causing this issue, whether it be a broken hanger or bent bracket or bent exhaust, id be interested to see a pic of a different hanger on your car for comparison purposes, im wondering if all of your hangers are gonna show the exhaust slightly offset from where it should be or if its just one or two of them. but just going around replacing hangers and brackets randomly would be a waste imo. you have to pinpoint the problem.
