rear drum brakes [no brake wear!]?

My car has been braking w/ some odd vibrations (when braking hard) almost feeling like they were coming from the rear. I went ahead and did the front brakes a week ago, and started to do the back this morning.

Now for the real problem issue...?

I noticed that the rear shoes are not worn at all. The drum itself seems pretty smooth (and has one very small line/groove going around the circumference of the drum itself when you run your finger along it. Is this an indication that the drum itself is bad, and it hasn't been able to self adjust? Any ideas why the shoes would be practically new, but the drum itself seems pretty worn?

Attached are some pictures...I'm surprised since it's been a very, very long time since looking at the rear brakes and didn't expect the old shoes to be nearly the same width as the new ones.

When you took the drums off, did you have to use the adjuster to get them off. Could you hear the pads slightly scraping on the drum. My guess would be the adjuster is not working to auto adjust them out. put it back together and adjust the pads so they slightly scrape on the drum. Have someone them get in the cars and apply the brakes to see if they are stopping the drum from spinning. The slight wear on the drums could have been from the parking brake when set.

The drums came off w/out adjusting the star adjuster. The adjuster was quite dirty (you can tell in the picture), so I lubed it and cleaned it out thoroughly hoping that was the issue. I also made it so that the shoes where snug against the drum when putting it back togather.

After doing this procedure...
I did what you suggested and jacked up the car and when you apply the brakes, the wheel is unable to turn now. So I'm hoping it was the adjuster not going out...eventually making it not hit the walls of the drum.

I am definitely open to other suggestions are tests.
