hey guys,

do you know of any thread or info on removing the front bumper on gen1 solara ?
i need to get it off for installation of missing bumper reinforcement extension (body shop messed up collision repair 2 years ago).
most importantly, do i need to remove fog lights first in order to undo the bumper ?

thanks.

You just need to disconnect the connectors to the bulbs.

The first time I did it was really easy. Just take your time and you'll eventually figure out where all the bolts that hold the bumper to the car.

The harder bolts to get to are in the fender well and you'll have to peel back the fender lining to get to them.

Yeah dude take your time, first i would recomend to get underneath the car. Take off most of the plastic underneath to get to the fogs. Disconnect them and then inside the fender lining there is a bolt on each side.
Then the last ones, remove your corner lights. Right inside that space there will be another bolt on each side. The bumper should come right off.

all righty. i think i know which bolt behind fender lining you both are talking about. saw it once on another occasion when i was replacing missing bolts (another part of clumsy work done in that body shop in past). not sure about any plastic under car, i think this car lost most of it over years. i removed myself one of them (long thin piece protecting the sub frame) when it got broken in half... i work on this car a lot. quite recently finished a complete rebuild of EGR sub-system (literally everything was bad or appeared bad in testing).

good point about the corner lights, how do i remove them by the way ?

hehe, it seems like a serious project after all :drinking:

Pop, your hood open there should be a small screw attach to your headlights. It's only one screw thats holding your corners. Once remove push it forward away from the car.

mission accomplished :)

thanks for the clues. it was much easier than I thought. i got prepped well for that and was able to remove the bumper with no harm, install the missing reinforcement extension under the driver headlight and put it all back together.
gen1 solara requires 4 new plastic clips (they are one time use), 2 in corners below corner lights and 2 under the bumper.

also the hidden nuts behind corner lights are accessible only through the fender well with a long extension, no problem after all. time consuming a little, but easy after all :)

thanks again!
