Pulling the Engine

Pulling the Engine

Postby TxBmbleBee » Wed Feb 10, 2010 8:07 pm

I searched and found no posts on directions for pulling the engine. I guess if I need directions I probably shouldn't do it?

All I could find was a post that King made saying to leave the a/c unit in the bay. My question is for those who have actually pulled the engine themselves, not people who have had others do it for them. Any basic steps or helpful advice or should I just buy a hanes manual and not waste board space?

You can leave the A/C unit in the car hangin' somewhere, but not to kink up the lines.
Then you can unbolt the whole front subframe, and the fuel connections and engine harness plugs, and pull the engine from below.
I think that's the easiest.
That's what i'll be doin' when i do and get my motor swap done.

I definitely suggest getting a manual to make things easy.

You can easily pull the motor from the top w/o touching the subframe (aside form the mounts).

You definitely want to disconnect the battery.

no, it's a alot easier to do it through the top

another thing that makes things a lot easier- pull the engine harness out through the wirewall (disconnect on the ecu side)

also, lift the motor up about a foot off the subframe (make sure hte lines don't kink), then just hit up the banjo bolt for the p/s hose with an impact gun. Make sure that you don't accidentally unbolt the secondary nut (it's hard to explain, but when you fiddle around with it, it becomes pretty clear) that is directly attached to the pump though, otherwise you will get quite a leak from there when you reattach everything. Install is reverse of removal. Be very careful that you don't strip the threads on the banjo bolt.

not at all....maybe if you have a lift and you're only taking out the tranny, but not if you're doing both.

and definitely not on your driveway
