Help! Bumping noises coming from the rear passenger side

Postby Bboy_307 » Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:13 pm

Hey guys, I have made an account about a year and a half ago but I was unable to log in after a month so now I just made a new account.

Two nights ago, Xmas night, I was driving on a backroad in the rain and I hit a pothole which bent my 18" passenger side front rim. After I hit the pothole with my front tire, there was a bumping noise (similar to the noise caused by loose lugs, a fast bump, bump, bump noise) that appears from the passenger side rear wheel whenever I make a right turn. Sometimes the noise appear when I accelerate from a stop but not loud.

I had read that the noise may be caused by the shocks going bad. Is that the case for my Solara? and why would the noise start appearing after I hit the pothole?

Can you guys please help me and advice me as in whats making the noise and whats wrong?

Thank you guys very much!

you could have a blown strut, and a bad strut mount as well.

The pothole's impact could have accelerated the wear of these parts substantially. Also check to see if any of the control arms have been twisted, or maybe the bushings wore out too...

There's a lot that can go wrong from hitting a pothole, and from your post... a bent rim could only be the beginning.
Geeks get it done, while Nerds whimper and call for mommie.

Sounds like a strut or strut mount to me as well. The cold weather can also make them creak
