keyless entry beeps

keyless entry beeps

Postby 02slera » Mon Nov 09, 2009 2:16 pm

my car is a 02 solara sle with basic keyless entry. my understanding is that when the doors are locked it should beep once and when unlocked it should beep twice. instead of beeping my lights flash once or twice for lock or unlock. the owners manual says "switching beep sound on and off"....
with driver's door opened;
insert the ignition key and remove it;
within 5 seconds, insert the ignition key again and turn it to the "ON" position;
after 10 seconds, push the same "LOCK", "UNLOCK", "PANIC" or trunk opener switch twice within 10 seconds. two beep sounds inform you that the program has been switched on or off.

This is not working for me, anyone know of a different procedure or anything i can check?

If you leave a door opened, and press "lock" on the remote, do you get a long "beep" noise from the car? (and I dont mean from the horn).

If you don't get it, then chances are you either dont have the little "beeper", or it isn't functioning properly.

my remote is like the one on the right except i have a third button at the bottom to open trunk instead of the toyota emblem. and i'd be happy if it honks or beeps i just want a sound to verify the car is locked, i always have to look and see the lights flash, i'm pretty sure that it is supposed to beep, not honk.

The little "beeper" is located inside the passenger fender right by the windshield washer reservoir.

^^^^ ah hell yes you are the man! now i can start troubleshooting tomorrow. can't thank you enough man. if anyone else has any more info on the subject please post as i have to figure out why my car won't beep. right now i'm thinking put 12 volts to the beeper and see if it beeps. (or see if its even there for that matter as my car was in an accident passenger side front before i owned it) THANKS AGAIN MAN!
