When I put my car in part sometimes in will roll forward

My 1999 Solara with 220000 miles on it has started to do this. When I put it in part it will roll either forward or backward depending on the incline. While doing this it will clunk a few times until it catches. I'm wondering if this is something I can fix or will it have to go to the transmission shop.

^^^^^x2

I would recommend keeping your foot partially on the brake pedal after shifting to park so that the pawl can slip slowly and gently into place. Assuming it's not a matter of the gear selector being out of adjustment, you are looking at a complete tear-down of the trans to fix the pawl. I'd just try to be gentle and milk it along.
