Several reasons why it wont work:

1) The gen 1.5 grille doesn't clip on to the gen 1 bumper.
2) The grille doesn't line up with the bumper
3) The grille and headlights are angled differently so it won't line up either.

Your best bet is to convert the front end. I have all the parts needed for a conversion. Let me know if you're interested.

DO it!! Fiberglassing is really easy once u get the hang of it. you could make many of them and sell them on here!

All you need is some mesh, a dremil, two sided tape, and paint.
