Timing Belt question

Hello

I just purchased my solara about 2 months ago it has 145k miles on it and I dont know if the timing belt has been changed so im just going to change it. A mechanic quoted me 450 for timing belt, water pump, and the 2 other belts. Is this a reasonable price? thanks

IMO yes... Thats a pretty reasonable price. A lot of times you end up spending 5-6-7 hundred depending. But i would recommend pitching the extra few bucks and grabbing your own belts. Get Gatorbacks!

Toyota always makes a good product... That or Gatorback will do good! I'm not sure but i believe the Gatorbacks have some time of warrenty/garrenty but i don't remember.

i bought my car used and didnt know if the timing belt was changed or not.

i put money asside to change it, but last min, i went to a mech and asked him if it needs to be changed, he said it looked almost new, so that saved me a good 500$.

Ask someone to inspect it first before u go ahead. i have almost the same milage as you do

You cant really inspect a timing belt from the outside (as i was told). Sure u can LOOK at the belt from the outside but u cant really diagnose how much use is on it.

For instance, when king did the timing belt on my car i had 85k on the OD. The belt looked Spank'n new.

Btw, when you get this done, try to get the Crank seal and the tensioner changed as well....Dont skimp on the tensioner for sure.

the mechanic looked at it and said there were cracks in it

im going today to get it changed

if there are no cracks on it doesnt need to be changed, thats what i was refering to when i was talking about inspection

yup i just broke a bracket off my black ones and glued it on the new ones. it looks good and it holds up strong, thanks
