Hey all,

Earlier today I had to press my hazard switch, which was already halfway falling into the dash of my 2000 Solara. This was its final push because it went the rest of the way.

Does anybody know how to fix this? The switch itself is fine, but the parts that mount it to the rest of the "dash" (big plastic piece between the air vents that also houses the stereo and A/C controls) are broken. I went to Toyota about a new one. They said $82. I said see ya. If I recall it's held on by 2 screws (haven't checked today). I may check a junk yard, but finding junked Solaras is rare and I don't think the switch is the same on Camry's or Avalons based on ebay searching. I also checked Rock Auto, but didn't find the right descriptor online.

As I recall I think you are correct about the two screws holding the switch. From a shadetree mechanic standpiont, you could mix epoxy and fill the screw holes and at the same time put the screws back in. This will hold but you need only to put enough pressure on the switch to engage it. It sounds like that switch was used as a punching bag.

As I said this will last until you find another center bezel. Good luck.

Well I think the weakpoint is not the Center bezel But the plastic used to mount the switch itself. The switch has 2 screw holes that extend from the square shaped back of the switch, they're like molded on rings made of thin plastic and they're the weak points (if memory serves). I think what happened was that the wire connected to the back of the switch put stress on those rings whenever I'd mess with the back of my stereo's head unit(recently added a ground loop isolator), as the plug can be a pain to get in right on that switch. I haven't been beating on it, so that's the most likely cause. I'm not a car beater.

So the epoxy might not be the thing for me, I really just need a replacement switch. Preferably cheap. Anyone got any ideas?

if it were me, i would try what campfire suggested.

i'm a big fan of using jb weld to hold stuff together.

plus, since it's not going to be used much (hopefully), it's really more of a cosmetic fix, to make it look even again, so the durability doesn't have to be super hard....it just has to look good, and still be functional if it needs to be.
