1MZ-FE 5-speed manual codename?

1MZ-FE 5-speed manual codename?

Can anybody confirm (with owners manual preferably) the name of the stock 5-speed with manual transmission Solara's? Some sources tell me its the E351 (same as my 2005 car).

I ask to check on whether it will bolt on a 3MZ vs my 2AZ.

Source mentions the similarity between E153 and E351

Thanks!

well...I think the biggest question right now as well is this...what is it that you want to do? swap out your 2az for a 1mz/3mz?

because the potential of the 2az is quite significant and pretty close to that of the 1mz- if not more, mostly just because more people have pushed the 2az to its limits than have people with the 1mz.

I follow you. Getting the potential out of the 2AZ-FE means going turbo whereas having a 3MZ/1MZ hybrid in my car would mean it would be nearly stock with good power and torque. What I am thinking its not as much as maximizing the application but having the ride as stock as possible for me.

I don't have money right now to do ANYTHING, but I've always liked the idea of a V6 MT (3MZ/1MZ hybrid sounds awesome). Hell, MR2 owners do V6 swaps instead of going 3S-GTE.

The manual for my wife's 1999 Solara says E153.

If you type in V6 MR2 into google, you will find a site that lists what transmission will fit. The E153 transmission will fit on the 3mzfe engine. However, there are ramifications.

I'm looking into dropping a 1mzfe engine into my Corolla right now, so you are in luck.

The ramifications are that the 3mzfe is not available with a manual transmission. The ECU is designed to work with the electronically controlled transmission that comes with the car. It will retard the timing when the transmission shifts to lessen shift shock. I have not confirmed this yet, but it seems to me, that the ECU may try to retard the timing when it thinks it needs to shift. That would be pretty annoying if you are just driving along with your manual transmissioned car.

I do not believe that the 1mzfe will do this as long as it doesn't have VVTi, because there is no indication in the manual that there is a different ECU for manual and automatic versions of the 1mzfe powered Solaras. I know my wife's 5 speed is simply missing the wires that would go to the automatic transmission. There's not even a resistor pack or anything there.

Good luck.

No CEL?

Still, I wonder why somebody mentioned E351 as being very similar to E153. How similar?
