when im at a stop light with the brakes on i hear a hiss, sounds like water running though pipes fast, and once i release the brakes it goes away, but when i go back on the brake it comes right back on?

would this be a leak brake booster or master cylinder?

Does the sound stay on the entire time your foot is on the pedal or just while its coming to a stop? and also, is fluid pooling up in your driveway, or is your master cyl reservoir full?

Well I doubt its a leak, because your car still stops. You'd know if your lines had a leak lol. Are you absolutely sure its coming from the brakes, and your not hearing something else? Something that is too quiet to hear over road noise until your stopped? If its not your lines, and it continues while stopped, I would think that its either your brake booster and there is something off inside it, or its not your brake system.

Could it be the brake booster? It happened to several of my cars (none Toyota) although its hiss of air, not "fluid" like water.

It's the brake booster. I have the same issue and had it checked out to be sure.

Before you go and buy the wrong one. There are two different boosters, one for Traction Control and one for no traction control. Right now, I'm going to research if I have TC or not.

Try this, start the car and leave it in park and stick ur head down by the brake pedal and press it with youre hand. If the hissing is comming from this area , more than likley the brake booster is leaking vaccum. Now depending how bad it is you can spray dry-lube (silicone spray) on the rod and seal and the noise will go away. If the leak is bad enough you'll have to replace the brake booster.

Mine has been doing it since middle of last year. I would have taken care of it earlier but health issues, of course. Due to health, I haven't driven much... that will soon change in the next months 8)

Yes, it will be harder to brake.

I would say follow his advice but also keep on the lookup for a brake booster. It will go out in due time and we don't want to have any accidents.
