Heater controls and gear selector don't light up

Since I bought my car, the heater controls and gear shifter have both not been illuminated. What could cause this? Thanks.

check your fuses

I checked all the fuses but they seem to be fine. Is there a bulb that may need to be replaced? If so, how would I go about doing that?

look in tutorials there is a writeup on bulbs/illumination for our cars
