fuel cap

Postby 5842solara » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:41 pm

hey, im new here. well i been on this forums for about a month, but just signed up.

i was looking on some pages and read that changing the fuel cap might save some gas.
my question is, does it have to be the locking one? cause i bought a regular one and no difference.
thanks
nate

The locking one is just one that deters little punks from stealing your gas or sugaring your gas tank (urban legend BTW)... Besides, unless your fuel cap is leaking (which should trigger your check engine light), there's no significant difference.

Nevertheless, Welcome to SolaraGuy!

take the whole intake off and clean the throttle body while your at it. That should free up some mpg.

I don't think changing your fuel cap is going to make a noticeable/measurable significance.

Go through the checklist, tire pressure, good oil, change your filters (fuel filter too), and make sure there's no unnecessary weight in the car.
Standard or automatic transmission? Where are you filling up? I use Mobil.

All that stuff adds up to a mile or two here and there. To clean your K&N air filter just buy the filter recharge kit. Basically it's just a cleaning solution that you spray all over the filter. Then flush the filter with cold water. Let it air dry, then re-oil it using the supplied oil. Looks brand new if you do it right. Those K&N filters are really sturdy.

Did you calculate your mpg or are you going from feel?
