Car won't crank

Car won't crank

Postby Grnarowana » Thu Aug 14, 2008 8:14 am

So I tried starting my car today and it didn't crank - all it had was click....click....whenever I tried to crank it. It was working fine yesterday. All the electronics work, and I didn't have time to see if I can jump it since it was 7am in the morning. My car has around 125K and the battery might have not been changed for about 4 years or so. Is the battery dead or do I need a new starter?

Yeah, the first place to check is the battery, that would be the easiest, if thats not it, its more than likely your starter solenoid.

Same Prob. it ended up being the starter.

hmm...so i came home from work and recranked it - still flat...but I tried to crank it half way and see waht happens and it ignites!...What gives? So i drove for about 15 mins to warm up the battery. And recranked again - dead - half cranked it, Walla!!!

And i did this every hour - and did a full crank and now the car i working fine again - What gives?

I'm going to get my battery checked tomorrow and see if its the battery.

i'm guessing its a dead spot / segment on the starter. depending on where the starter stops, and when you try to start it again, it may work fine or you may have ito hit it with a hammer while turning the car over. i'd replace the starter.

So the situation came back where it just clicks clicks clicks, but no crank. So i do the half crank and it starts up. Do i have a starter situation?

I went to Kragens and they ran a check on my battery and said the battery and alternator running fine. Than he popped open the battery and said I need acid in the battery or at least distilled water added - so i did, and it starts up working decent for a few days.

Where can I charge my battery and see if that's one of my problems or just go into toyota and run a check.
