Digital gauge cluster question

Does anyone know if you were to change the gauge cluster if the mileage would be different or is it read from the ECM?

Mileage is stored in the cluster I believe.

Thanks, I was looking at clusters on ebay and I asked the mileage and they told me it would be whatever the computer in the car tells it to be. I would have told them they are wrong but I thought about it and really was not entirely sure. The Celica is easy, it has an analog cluster so if you change it your mileage is changed...obviously.

if you do install a new cluster the dealer can update it to the proper kms.

I work at a dealership so i asked the parts guy and one of the master techs yesterday. If you buy a NEW [digital] cluster from the dealer they can set it to the proper mileage before they send it. I don't believe you can go in with a cluster you bought somewhere else and send it out to be changed... although I didn't really ask that question, I don't think they would have known the answer to it to be honest.

and redgen1, the turbo project on the Celica is coming along slowly as it has been. I have all the parts, now I'm waiting for my friends garage to be vacant. There were a few emergencies with his car first. I'm also thinking about pushing mine back until my boyfriend does his swap so I can get the Solara running and use it while my car is in the garage for a week.
