Sputters when cold

Sputters when cold

Postby Black_rainbow2003 » Fri Jun 20, 2008 4:27 pm

Hi,
I have a 99 solara with approximately 200, 000 kms and lately I have noticed when first started in the morning or after being turned off for a few hours and then started, the car will sputter and hesitate before picking up espically when going up a hill. I have never encountered this before in my 5 years of owning this vehicle. This problem seems to go away when running for an hour or more. I have been told that it is possibly a dirty fuel filter, but wouldn't the car act the same way all the time not just when cold? I had the car serviced and I was told a sensor was gone so I replaced the sensor but still no change. Where the filter is in the tank I would rather ask you guys before paying to have this labor intensive job done.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

So you have about 125,000 miles on your ride. Do you know what sensor was replaced? Its weird that you say it only does that when cold. Sounds like fuel pump to me.

According to the invoice they replaced a vacum valve, however this did not solve my problem. From reading other posts on similar problems, could it be the coil pack? Maybe it gets damp and when the car warms up and generates heat and it works properly? Does anyone know the cost of one and the time involved to repalce?

Just found during a search and it appears to be exactly the same as my problem

Any ideas why this only occurs when the car is cold?
