Spiders????

Spiders????

Postby Selkal » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:12 am

I've had my '99 Solara SLE for about a week, and while everything's been great mechanically, I've found I have some unwanted guests in the car. Spiders. At least I think they're spiders. They're incredibly tiny, maybe 1-2 mm in length. I'm not sure if they're baby spiders or some other spider-like bug.

The problem is that they're somewhere behind the dash. They come out of the cracks around the center air vents (yeah, they're that small). Sometimes they hide back, crawling through the cracks at the edge of the factory stereo.

I only ever see two or three at a time, and sometimes I see none at all, so who knows how many are there. I want to get rid of them, but obviously don't want to take the dash apart. I'd also prefer not to bomb the car, and I have a feeling that probably wouldn't work anyway. My thought was maybe turn the fan on and spray some bug repellent aerosol through the air intake vent/s.

My question is, how many intake vents are there, where are they, and are there any filters that need to be removed before I try this?

Of course any other suggestions are welcome.

(Braces for the closet comedian comments too)

bombing wouldn't hurt anything in the car and it does help alot. You would need to get a can that you control how much, like an aresol, not one you pull the top and throw it in like a grenade. At my dad's micro brewery(when we owned it), we had to bomb the area where the kegs, bottles, and tanks of beer were. Also bombed were we brewed the beer and the bar area. Basically get all the food out and stuff. You wouldn't need to use a whole can either. Just let it sit for 24hrs and it should do the trick.

when i worked at circuit city there was a lady that had us come out and service her tv because it was broken, and it turns out that it was infested with spiders.

and she was angry at us cause the extended warranty didn't cover spiders lol

I wish I still had pictures, but I actually had a HUGE web in the trunk of my SenCrap, then I found a friggin' black window the size of a half-dollar in the trunk!

all I can say is dont turn on your air.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

I had the same problem ironically when I lived in Houston and ^^^ is the best/only thing to do. I had one drop down on my face from the ceiling when I was driving... nearly flipped my car.

...do cars get CRABS?

Seriously, the "water-activated" bomb or some such thing... and there are those that are "claimed" to be "odorless", too.
