I have an '02 V6 4sp auto, and I was wondering if anyone knew what the engine speed the vehicle is normally, or should be, at when at 60mph, and 70mph.

I know with a GM 4sp auto I had in the past, the at around 70mph the engine speed was around 2300RPM, where the solara seems to be 300-400RPM higher.

I am just trying to guage what is normal, appreciate the insight.

Nick...

http://www.vibratesoftware.com/
In 1997-2008 Help File

Got the numbers for a 2003 year model...I'm sure it is the same as 2002

Your tranny name is A541E

Gear ratio
1st 2.810
2nd 1.549
3rd 1.000
4th 0.735
Rev 2.296

Front Axle ratio
3.933

Now do your maths to isolate the variable you want.
For tire total diameter go
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

(Axle ratio x MPH x 336 x gear ratio) / tire total diameter = RPM

Axle ratio 3.933
MPH 70
Constant 336
Gear ratio 0.735
Tire total diameter 25.68 (the 16" option)
RPM 2647.607383

Bottom line you said your Ford was making 2300 and you were 300-400 over that in your Solara...I think your RPM is 100% NORMAL
