hello! this is my first post on the forum - i apologize if it's been addressed before. i tried a bunch of different search terms & didn't come up with anything similar to my problem.

i'm running a 99 solara se (4-cyl., 5spd) w/ 134000 & lately i've been experiencing some issues. here's my symptoms:
-power loss (esp. on inclines)
-slight slippage in shifts (feels like plates not engaging fully)
-in 4th gear, ~2200rpm on incline, i'll see a rise in revs (up to ~2800), but that power is not being transferred to my wheels
-strain above 3500rpm - no more "punch", even in 1 & 2
-hesitation/stuttering/bucking when revs are ~1500-1800

i'm fairly certain this is something in my linkage - perhaps even something i can fix with an adjustment. if not, i hope someone could give me some info on whether i'm looking at replacing the clutch or the entire tranny.

anyone out there experience something like this?

You're definitely experiencing some of the issues that I had when my clutch went out. There should also be a burning smell that is usually noticeable a couple of weeks prior to the clutch going out entirely. I would advise having it changed before you get stuck on the side of the road like I did.

clutchy burnt......make sure you have the flywheel re-surfaced and have the rear main oil seal changed......sits right behind the flywheel, and is a definite must while everything is out!
