Well i just bought a 2000 Solara. It's Red, convertible, SLE V6, black leather auto... blah blah blah lol For my g/f that is. Paid 4 thousand from a dealer buddy. only downfall is the 199k miles. Figured hey its a toyota? Clean carfax so i bit the bullet. I've had a 98 Talon Tsi, 95 Z28 Camaro that i dropped a 383 stroker in and now my 2000 Dodge w/ the Cummins diesel and i'm pretty knowledgable about cars/trucks and goin fast but no clue about this car. So far i've had a couple things to complain about and maybe you can tell me what to do about it. One time we were leaving a restaurant and it was acting like it was idleing too low and was shuddering a bit but we took off and no problems since. now tonight she was leaving work and she said it was coasting to a stop and the rpms jump from 1k to 2k on its on. twice back to back. Any ideas?

X2. That should help, helped my idle problem. Also, clean or replace your spark plugs if needed. Wouldn't hurt to change the wires either.

I bought my 99 SE for 4K also, and needed to pay tax for 8,2K value. Our solara are overprice in the blue book. ANd mine is not convertible, the convertible here in Canada has a value of $14 to 16K for the 99!!!

For 4K I needed to put 1K for repair, for a 5K car, with 110K mileage.

Try the sea foam idea. Just becareful not to hydro lock your car by spraying too much in all at once. It may even be nothing. I used to have a camaro which if I remember correctly idles at 900 rpm. When I got the solara it idles at 650rpm which I wasnt used to and I thought quite low. At idle my car sometimes shudders. I think its just because the engine vibrates more at lower rpms. When then engine is moving at higher rpms it stops. I think its the dogbone engine mount that make that noise. I think that its normal. Also when your saying that the car is reving at 1k to 2k when she leaves work, that is ok if it only lasts until the car is warmed up after startup. The engine revs higher just to get it to the normal operating temperature quicker. It should drop to a lower idle once its warmed up.

Not sure if the pictures do the justice but the car looks good for having 199k on it.

seems clean for a 199K car. I'd suggest the Throttle body cleaning (like everyone already indicated). If you choose to clean with seafoam, PLEASE Sea foam trreatment ON THE THROTLE BODY SIDE ONLY..and NOT on the crank..for a car with milage, i'd would not touch the crank, unless you know its been done every 10K miles or so before. GL and welcome to SG

well after cleaning the throttle body and checking the plugs everything seems ok. took it for a drive and gave her some hell and i found out what she was talking about. When you let it coast from a decent speed and let out of the gas it slows and the rpms stay with the car if you know what i mean and as the rpms lower and the car slows it downshifts and brings the revs back up like downshifting in a straight drive. Guess its normal for this car? Only drove it up and down the road and it was just warming up when i pulled in the car port so i couldnt compare to it bein completely warmed up
