Need help with rear calipers

Need help with rear calipers

'99 V6 SLE

I'm changing out my rotors and brake pads. Started on the rear. Went to take off the caliper and I can't for the life of me find the top bolt (sliding pin?). Where it should be is a rubber stopper. Same on both sides. Anyone know what's going on? Will post pics as soon as I can find a camera.

You should see the bolt it should be a 12mm bolt i think.
You can't miss it.
It should be the only other bolt on the back of the caliper.
If you locate the brake pad bracket you will see both bolts.

sorry, the pics are huge. I'll fix that in a sec. Anyway, that's what I thought, but if you check out the picture there's nothing back there.

That first picture you took.
Look the bottom of it you should see another bolt like it, wit a rubber thingy between that brake pad bracket, and caliper.

If it was there, I'm sure I wouldn't be missing it. What's vexing me most is that even though it is seemingly not there, the caliper won't come off. The bottom one's where it should be and comes out fine, no excessive force needed.

SOMETHING is holding that caliper on there though, and where that something is supposed to be is a rubber cap, not a gasket or some other rubber thing that goes between a bolt and a surface.

hmmm....if I remember correctly, there is a pin in there, but it doesn't come out or something along those lines.

Basically, just take off the bottom bolt and then swing the caliper upwards. Once the bottom is free of the bracket, then just push the entire caliper back to slide if off the caliper bracket. It may take a little bit of force if the pin is sticky, and be careful of tearing the dust cover

Your upper pin is out....look at the bottom of the caliper there is an other sliding pin (not the hose bolt). For each wheel you have 2 sliding bolt used by the brake pads to slide, 2 bolts screwing those 2 pieces together and the hose bolt (banjo bolt is named).

The 2 other bolts that retain everything together are more inside the center than the sliding bolts. Put your whole head in the lion mouth and see with your own eyes !

WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAH

I almost fell to the ground seeing that comment

yeah that top bolt is missing. Not all cap will flip down or up. You can make it if you put a rubber hammer to it but just unbolt both and pull it off.

The bolt thing tripped me out a few weeks ago too... I wanted to slap some more damping grease on the back calipers but discovered the exact same thing; not to mention that the cheapo socket wrench set I got warped, so I just abandoned the project [and demanded a refund since I just got the socket wrench set].

Okay, so power went out for the night after my last post. But I still don't think some of you are getting what I'm saying. The pin in that top hole is not out, it was never there. Where the top bolt should be is a little rubber plug.

I can locate the lower pin just fine. The parking brake is off.

Anyway, finally gonna get back under my car. Thanks for all the input.

Oh well then shoot just go to Ace Hardware and find another bolt just like the other one wit the same length and thread, if not go to a salvage yard....
