Bumper Sticker On Back of car...

Bumper Sticker On Back of car...

Postby Jakecallun20 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 10:37 pm

Hi, I just got my 99' Gen 1 solara, love it only problem is there is a bumper sticker about 2 inches square on the back (Trunk Lid, to the left of the solara word badge) The first owner said it has been on there since October of 1999 but I don't want it on there, but I am afraid it will take paint off if i try to remove it myself. Any suggestions?

Thanks Jake

Welcome - and what's the sticker made of? (vinyl, paper or foil) - but you could use something like Bestine (rubber cement thinner from art supply store) that won't hurt your paint at all and let is soak in good.

No matter what, if it's been on that long, there will most likely be a paint discoloration issue.

Hard to say what the sticker is made of, if I had to guess I would say vinyl.

^^ Try the Bestine - it works on the adhesive - not the material itself. There are other solutions out there as well, like Goof Off and Goo Gone, but might be iffy with the paint finish, so be careful. ;)

try goo-gone if that doesn't work. Stuff works so good if you let it soak and put some elbow grease into it. Its actually made of citrus oil so its still strong but gentle on paint finishes.

I would just try a little fishing line and desolv-it, lots of desolv-it... its worked for me on 9 year old dealer stickers before!

Goo-gone like someone above me said too. Works very well and if you dont have any you could use a hair-drier. Dont put it too close but put it on a low setting and let it warm up the sticker. Thats what i did to get one off my trunk lid too.
