Hi,nice forum you have going here and very helpful.I have a 2000 sev6,manual with 100k miles. Here are a number of things that are bothering me about the car:
1.I can't drive this car beyond 90,the steering wheel starts shaking and the car starts pulling or swerving to the right side.
2.Slow acceleration.I know it's only 200 hp and not a sports car,but i thought it would be better.
3.The car jumping or hoping when i step on the gas(ie from a traffic stop),is this the same problem that can fixed by the torque rod?
Thanks.

welcome aboard!

1- you might need an alignment but it sounds like your tires are off balance. either way, easy fix. have it checked out.

2- the solara is a heavy car and like you said, no sports car... do some suspension work to prevent the front end from lifting upon exceloration. some sticky tires wouldnt hurt either. if you can afford it, a supercharger or various other engine mods could help as well :P

3- yes a torque rod should help prevent your car from "jumping' while taking off.

hope this helps

Thanks for the quick replies.I was actually torn between alignment or balance,i'll settle on your advice and go with alignment. The dealer quoted me $99 but another shop said $50,what's with the difference?lol. The solara is a heavy car for sure,it's just that sometimes it's quick and at times it's too sluggish.
About the torque rods, are they still on order?.

im not familiar with the tripletreds.. are they a summer or all season?

one way to check if its an alignment you need is if your car pulls to one side or the other at pretty much any speed youre going. find a flat and straight road let go of the steering wheel for a second and see what happens.
if its a balance you need then your steering wheel will shake at higher speeds, much like you described. im thinking this is your problem. not so much the alignment. still, wouldnt hurt to have both done or atleast checked out. get some pice quotes from local shops. stay away from dealers, theyll charge you much more for the same thing a small shop can do for less.
also, do you have aftermarket rims?

The tripletreds are labeled as all season and the rims are stock.I might as well go with both alignment and balance since i have a free day tomorrow. In case there might be same shops here,do you have any recommedations?.

Now for a reality check and I'm not trying to be an ass. You have a car with 100K on it. Most likely it's worth less then you paid for it unless you got it free. Said all that to say that be careful how much you invest in a car that you will get near zero dollars at time of trade in..

Keep it running, keep it safe but, keep it cheap..

youre welcome, pretty much stuff ive learned on this site... lots of VERY knowledgeable members on here.
i like my color too :) havnt seen a solara in person, the same color. :) *knock on wood*

where are you from? any plans to mod your car?

like greg said, you do have high miles but for a toyota, its not bad. we have members with well over 200k miles on their solaras and theyre still running strong.

i don't really plan on any mods on the car because of the miles.I just want the steering wheel shaking to abate and the car's leaning to one side at high speeds to stop.I basically use the car driving to and from work and barely need it for much else.My choice for a pleasure ride would definately be a 3 series but i'll stick to what i have lol.

Welcome :D

It looks like others gave you some good advise. I might also add, have you done some required maintenence - like timing belt, water pump, changed spark plugs, clean the throttle body, etc.?
