The Smell!!!

The Smell!!!

Postby offroadinfrontier » Sun May 27, 2007 11:42 am

i have a sunroof (sle v6) and, as far as i can tell, not a single leak anywhere. whenever it rains a decent amount, the interior of my car smells like moldy farts... its a horrible smell, but i cant seem to find where or what causes it. all of my sunroof drains are fine, and theres never a spot of water on the inside of the car that i can find. anyone have any experience with this horrible smell and how to get rid of it?

i doubt it matters, but sometimes, depending on the (lack of) moisture in the air and the heat, my sunroof will stick unless i hit the roof...

Sounds like it may be your ventilation... You may have mold or mildew growing in your ductwork... There are chemicals you can use to clean it out, but it takes a bit of time / work.

Do the Gen 1s have cabin air filters? If so, check that as well.

Check your door / window / trunk seals to make sure there are no tears and they make proper contact (take a hose and spray slowly along where they contact using a pressure nozzle and see if you can find any drips on the interior).

That's what I thought... It's probably the ductwork then... Sucks, but pretty common.
