No beeping w/ the alarm

No beeping w/ the alarm

Postby 99V6solaraSE » Sat Dec 03, 2005 12:51 am

For some reason whenever I arm the alarm on the car, it doesnt beep, whereas sometimes it does beep.
I never used to have this problem. and its the stock alarm btw.

not to get off topic either but what might be the problem if the lights that illuminate the shifter is out, like the P R D 2 L...

i get the same exact problem too, have no idea why it does that. i thought maybe it was because i hit the switch underneath the dash, but that doesnt seem to be it when i flip it back.

The 99 Solara has a beep? Sheeeeit... Someone please offer a solution, because I replaced the front corner lights to a "xenon" to match my lights, and the only way I could tell my car was armed/disarmed was to look at the lights. However, they were too dim during the day so I bought a set of white ones.

By the way for the shifter, are you talking about the indicators near the speedometer or the ones where the gear selector are?

If your alarm isn't beeping but just locking the doors, its in "Valet Mode".

To get it out of "Valet Mode", hold down the switch under the driverside dash and start the car while holding that switch down......thats should take care of your problem and it should beep after that.

My car has always just flashed its parking lights when I lock it too. I dont think ive ever noticed a button under the driver side dash. I remember reading a post a while back that if your car does flashes it lights without beeping it wasnt equiped with a alarm. So I left the situation alone. Although I still wonder sometimes if I do have an alarm cause I have a panic button on my remote and I have a security light that lights up in the tach when I lock it. What do you guys think?

Well, I think I do have an alarm, because I tried opening the door from the inside with it armed and it surely went off (and if that's not an alarm, I don't know what is anymore). Anyway, 1st Gen, are you thinking of an aftermarket alarm? I'll still check nevertheless; thank you.

As for your question, Solorange, it is still possible to have a panic button without an alarm; my SenCrap came with a keyless entry (with Nissan keyfob), then I got a different payment option that offered to install an aftermarket alarm (Chapman CodeAlarm), and the Nissan was pretty much useless since it'll set off the alarm if I used it.

i know i have an alarm for sure. Its gone off like nefarious said when ive opened the door from the inside. I dont have a panic button but when i hold down the button from the key, it goes off. I also havent really ever noticed a switch but ill check today and dont ever remember accidentally pressing it so i dont know why it would beep one day and not another. hmm...

and o yea i was talking about the lights rite next to the shifter, not the one in the dash...

From the key? Are you talking about a non-Solara that has a button built into the key?

Anyway, I couldn't find a button anywhere, even when I removed the cowl side trim because I found a couple of 1/4" holes (assuming there was supposed to be one).

As for the lights, it might be burnt out, but I personally use the ones on the dash -- habit from driving column-based shifters (but then again I'm glad I'm not using the windshield washers to pull into reverse... Had that blonde moment a few times after I sold my first car a few years ago).

i'm pretty sure the button/switch he is talking about is for aftermarket alarms, because that's the way you take an aftermarket alarm out of valet mode.

solorange, to test if you have an alarm, roll down your window. Get out of the car, manually lock the door using the key. Wait about 5 to 10 minutes. Now reach in thru the window and manually unlock the door, don't push unlock button. with the door unlocked open the door. If nothing happens then you don't have a factory alarm. A lot of times the theft light has to do with the radio or with the key itself.

that's EXACTLY what a panic button is; it manually triggers your alarm.

To get it out of "Valet Mode", turn the ignition on and hold the override button under your dash for 5 seconds......thats should take care of your problem and it should beep after that.

yep. this process is only for aftermarket alarms. if your remote is factory, there may be another way of kickin' the system into valet mode.

Well i rolled down my window and lock the doors with the remote. About an hour later i fliped open the switch on the door manually and walla.... my alarm went off. I guess that means i have an alarm and it doesnt beep when i lock. The parkings lights just flicker. Now some of you say you get the horn to honk when you arm your cars. How do I do this? I am I suppose to find a button to turn valet mode off? Cause I dont know of any button.
