The correct pronunciation is "Lawn Guyland". That is the actual way it sounds coming from a Long Islander. NY'ers add the "W" into quite a few words, such as "wawrsh" (like laundry), and "wawrter" (the stuff you drink). And us Lawn Guylanders always threw the "G" onto the Island instead of at the end of Long. Trust me ... I spent my first 30 some years there, and now can hear it quite well, and have been told about it quite a few times out here in California
