Bad Motor... Where to go next..

Postby (K) » Mon Nov 10, 2008 6:41 pm

Ouch, well at least it's not something severe like a cracked block.

If everything is fine except for those rings I suggest a rebuild. Something about junkyard motors (especially aluminum blocks) that I can't fully trust...sitting there for who knows how long and not running, something's probably seized, even worse if the car was in a front end collision.

If anything, at least with a worn ring you can drive normally for a while without too severe consequences. Better a worn ring than say a worn valvespring or related...

For the solution to this problem, I refer you to my first post in this topic lol.

yea well car eats oill... if i keep my actuator open at all times like ya know like its getting vacuum at all times so it closes it... will it not boost then? im gonna rip it all apart tomorrow at the shop and hopefully the block is still good and all i did do was eat up the rings.. im gonna clean up the heads and check them all over too... but what pistons/rods should i get... and compression too... im not lookin to turbo or what not.. gonna stay with the supercharger... 7psi or even a lil more would be nice so you tell me cause you guys know more what can this aluminum block handle with a worked bottom end? I dont mind spending a bit if its worth it.. but you guys dont think a rebuild kit like this is even worth it.. for the price... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS-ES ... dZViewItem
They also sell a short block too built for not much more... but then id have to do a bunch more work.. so hopefully i can just rebuild what i got.

I'd just pick up a motor and drop it in and get it over and done with.

If you can't get a new motor ( I know PTballer has one for 100 bucks with 90k miles on it.) then I'd suggest looking into a top end rebuild. With another set of good valves.

I can get used motors between 400-750$... So basically im better off just droppin in another block? Anyone do a motor swap on a solara? Any pain in the ass? Can I pull the tranny and motor as one piece with the axles removed? Again I do have a shop with engine lift and everything so im not worried, just wanna know if its a pain and if thats the right route to go at this point.

BEST route to go right now- and it's an easy in and out through the top with the axles removed

just pull the wiring harness at the ecu through the firewall

thanks man. really shouldnt even waste my time taking it apart right n trying to fix it? just gonna give me more headaches if one went out now... Ill get a motor dropped off tomorrow or the next day.. but ill take my motor out tomorrow night. One place round here says they got a motor from an avalon with 30,000 miles... dunno how true it is.. but bein a mechanic i do see the type of nice old grandmommy's driving around hitting things in there good old unbreakable avalons. :)

also... what should i keep from my old motor before im sure ill have to give it back as a core... depending on where i get it from... ill keep all the electronics ofcourse ;)

If you're getting that much blowby then you proberly scratched up your cylinder walls, in my case I got so much blowby that the pressure blow out my rear valve cover seal and when I tried to put oil, it would just leak out. I think its a lot easier to swap out your engine out trust.

If you're going to swap in a short block do a 3mz block.

Seriously man, I'd message PTballer, I know he has a 1MZ with 90k miles on it, he's been trying to sell it for months and no one has needed it. I'm pretty sure he still has it. 100 bucks last I heard.
