fuel injectors

Postby sev6 » Wed Oct 22, 2003 12:19 pm

need help! i have a 99 sev6 with approx. 70000 miles. car serviced regularly. at 59,532 miles
service dept said fuel injectors need cleaning.
at 68587 miles fuel injectors cleaned and flushed. after this service car
ran rough. yesterday (engine light came on) and was told all
fuel injectors need to be replaced ($1800 for parts & labor). all need to
be replaced because toyota upgraded injectors. my problem/question
is why this problem started after injectors were cleaned and why can't
they replace 2 that need replacing with old injectors. don't know much
about cars but i am really annoyed with service i am receiving. have
always had car serviced at the dealer. took car home and trying to
decide what to do.

any advise would be appreciated.

the dealer you went to is full of it.

they cleaned the injectors, and now they say they need replacing? i dont get it.

imho, i think you should argue with them, that they did something to the car. b/c it was not in the same working condition on how you brought the car in before service.

Dealership messed your car up. Take it back and say "fix it or you'll be hearing from my lawyer."

That's what I would do, but I'm sure DavPak would say something else. Wow, less than 2,000 miles after service, couldn't they tell they were going bad?

I have never heard of any Toyota having Fuel Injectors damaging @ 70K! Regular maintenance and Fuel Injector cleaner with every oil change should be enough to keep it in good condition. My uncle has an 89 Camry original owner with 177k miles and has never had problems with the injectors. My dad has a 93 Ford Aerostar and never done that either. If they recommended that be done and now it needs replacement, they will need to fix it. I think they burned them out with something they used to clean them. Toyota backs up there service and repair and think they should be able to assist. I know there is a Toyota service guy that is on this a member on this site but I forgot his name. I am kind of new here myself. Good Luck! Worse Case take it to another place and obtain a second opinion. It's kind of like your dentist wanting to pull all 4 wisdom teeth when you only need one to be removed! They are also in it for the $$. :agrue:

thanks for all your comments. my opinion is that they messed up something
when they cleaned injectors because as soon as i picked up
car after cleaning i noticed that is was driving rough. i argued with
service manager that the problem started after cleaning but he
assured me that cleaning had nothing to do with it. i am taking
car to a mechanic tonight and will find out what he thinks. have also heard
from others that at 70,000 miles i should not have to replace.

4banger, price quoted was flwg

replace injectors w/gaskets
parts & labor $1778

service manager insisted all 6 should be replaced due to upgrade
of injectors. if i replace only the 2 that they see need replacing
it would be a strain on the other 4 older injectors.

i elected not to purchase extended warranty as i figured i would
not need it since toyota is supposed to be so reliable. extended
warranty would have paid for repair.

The thing i don't understand is what do you mean by UPGRADE?
The ONE & ONLY Fully Loaded 2006 X Avalon Limited with Body Kit in CA = Special Limited Edition + First 2GR-FE rebored the throttle body (i think...)

fuel injectors

Postby sev6 » Thu Oct 23, 2003 7:29 am

according to service manager toyota has "upgraded" injectors. i asked if they
could replace only the 2 injectors that need replacing but he said since
toyota has upgraded or come out with new injectors the old 4 would have
to work too hard, that is why they recommend replacing all 6. if they have
to do this with everyone who needs injectors replaced on older solara's does
this mean old injectors are defective and they should pay for new ones?? i don't understand much of this.

im sure dealer wanted to word things differently in tricking you that you need them. if these injectors are "upgraded," you should ask him what is the flow rate? if they are higher than 210cc, then yes, they are at a higher flow rate.

im sure they wont be. just a set of new injectors that you do not need. i still think along with the others that the service tech did something wrong, and dont want to pay for it. give them hell until they fix your car. its just wrong for any dealer to do such thing to a customer.

fuel injectors

Postby sev6 » Thu Oct 23, 2003 10:33 am

just wanted to let you all know that i just got off the phone with
the mechanic i brought my car to last night. he had to replace
all 6 injectors due to the fact the toyota has issued a new part # for injectors required.
his opinion is that toyota had problems with the old injectors and
instead of recalling they issued new ones. so anyone who has a problem
will be told they need 6 new injectors and unless you have extended warranty it will cost!
another issue is mechanic found green coolant was
added... he says toyota should have red. the only place i ever had car
serviced was toyota dealer where i bought car so i am going to have
a few issues to discuss with them.

just wondering if anyone else has had to replace fuel injectors?

thanks for you help.

Ouch...that hurts.

But if you are willing to wait, then run around all the toyota boards and look for some used injectors and save yourself the grand.

And my 94's on 285K km and original injectors that are handling 6lbs of boost no problem
