help, motor swap

help, motor swap

Postby 5842solara sc » Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:31 am

If anyone can help me that would be great.

So my 2000 solara is standard. And my motor blew. So I found an automatic avalon (1995). Same 1mzfe motor. But auto trans.

So when I put the avalon motor in my car with my old trans (standard) then the motor will not spin. But whrn I loosen then trans bolts. The motor spins. It sounds like the pressure plate is hitting the fork that is connected to the pilot bearing. it seems like the clutch sticks out more or something and its hitting the trans. I took apart the trans and clutch assembly like 3 times. ugh. cant really find anything wrong.

Any ideas, thank you

Leave it to the pro ladies, when you swap out the auto drive wheel and installed your manual flywheel you forgot to take out the spacer, the auto drive wheel has 2 spacers one in the front and one behind the drive wheel. You should be able to see 9 holes on the crank if you see 8 holes then the spacer is stuck on there.

thanks for the reply.
9 holes? so there is 8 screw holes and 1 hole for the notch on the spacer?

when i pulled of the manual trans. there was only one spacer. (between the flywheel and crankshaft) and same with the auto, (only one as well). the auto trans had a skinny one and the standard had a thicker one.
so really, it should be. crankshaft, flywheel, spacer, then bolts, then clutch and flexplate?

Thats how I have it now. But he said I should see 9 holes?
If anything there was a smaller spacer. Could I have put the wrong one? I swore I took the big spacer from the standard trans.

i tried. lol and the bolts were to long? i could go buy shorter ones?
ill try that. i was worried the flywheel would hit the engine block or something. but ill go see if i can get shorter bolts since you said you dont use the spacers. thanks

The auto bolts are shorter then the manual. Just use the manual bolts, no spacer and you'll be okay, when I do 5 speed swaps that's what i do.

It's important to note that you should use new bolts on the flywheel. The bolts are torque-to-yield and should not be reused.

Good luck.

Nope try plugs! Could be an injector but plugs would be easier then I would look into the injectors.

I'm gonna do the plugs.. but I don't think it is it. The motor ran good in the other car.

Would the computer have to be programmed or something?

Since the motor ran good. Im thinking its my car. Or upgrades.
Supra injector or jims fuel mod. Mayb one is bad and sending to much fuel.
