Keyless Remote Question

Keyless Remote Question

Postby mers714 » Sun Jul 05, 2009 10:14 pm

I purchased my 2000 Solara V6 SE last month and it only came with a key and no keyless entry remote. There's a security light on the cluster that blinks. How do i go about getting a remote or programming it?

Thanks

Also, make sure it doesn't have an aftermarket alarm that you don't know about lol... I got my lara a month ago, and they didn't say that it had aftermarket alarm. I took it to a local car stereo/accessory shop and they programmed a remote to it for free, just had to pay for the remote. Look under the hood driver side all the way up by the windshield.... thats usually where the aftermarket alarms are installed.

you tried this ? 1. Start with the following conditions:
a. Key Is out of the ignition.
b. Driver door is open (all other doors are closed).
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter).
2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver's door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. A
lock/unlock cycle consists of pressing the power lock switch, followed by pressing the power unlock switch on the driver's door panel. Use an even pace and try to go relatively fast.
b. Close, then open the drivers door.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver's door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock (just as
you did previously).
b. Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the Ignition.
5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) automatically Indicating successful entry into
programming mode. Return to Step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1 second.
b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, hit the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) once indicating successful programming. If the
door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b - this remote has not been accepted.
c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for each transmitter that will operate the vehicle, including any old transmitters.
7. Close driver door.

Would this work on all Solaras? because I purchased an ebay remote and then I tried to do this programming thing multiple times but it never worked. I was told my car never came with automatic keyless entry. I just find this hard to believe because when i leave the key in the ignition and i open the door and try to lock the car, the car AUTOMATICALLY unlocks them...

^^^ Thats a saftey measure all solaras have. I beleive you need the box to communicate with the remote. The saftey measure is essentially the same as power locks.

I searched a while ago to see where it was located to see if i had one (I didnt).... Some threads say under the drivers seat, ive seen some say under the center console. Maybe do a search and get all your options.

Soooo I got my remote in the mail today and I tried the programming procedure. Did it several times and it didn't work. Is there a trick to it, maybe a certain speed or pace I should be going? I really hope I didn't waste my money :-(
