2000 Convertible Subwoofer replacement?

2000 Convertible Subwoofer replacement?

2000 Convertible SLE with JBL factory sound

Instead of the notorious stock subwoofer which has been trouble since day 1 over 9 years ago, I want to put a better one in there keeping the factory radio. Since my experience with the topic is limited, I need to find out:

1- Is it an 8" subwoofer?
2- If it is, can I use any sub? I know the sub box size matters for proper rating as well as the amp that is matched for it
3- I'd spend $100 bux on decent replacement.

Thanx

Lenny

It's unlikely that you'll find a decent replacement for the stock sub. It was junk right from the factory, so anything else you throw in there isn't going to be much better. The stock JBL amp isn't all that powerful either. $100 for a good replacement is unrealistic too.

My suggestion is to get a small amp, and small box. I'll sound way better, and last a lot longer.

elemental designs makes small subs from 6" up ti 15" and they also make shallow mount subs.

Google: Edesignaudio or elemental designs. They make awesome car audio and home audio.

I ran there SQ10 shallow mount sub in my xb that fit under my front passenger seat. Awesome sound quality.

They also have some 6" subwoofers that make awesome SQ.. However most of the subwoofers are SQL

Is that your convertible? What setup do you have. I want the S/W in the same place because trunk space is limited. They wanted to put a new box in there with a bigger S/W. I'm not giving up cooler space.

How does the rear seat come out? Do u know?

thanx for all the replies

Yes, that is my convertible.

I have a basic cd/usb deck for now with a JL 4-channel amp under the passenger seat. Front components, and rear 6.5" coax. In the trunk I have a single 12" sub in a small cube box, and the sub amplifier is mounted where the stock sub used to be.

The rear seat (backrest) is bolted in from the rear. You'll have to access them with the roof closed, and you'll also have to remove the carpeting that the roof sits in when its down. It's tough to describe without pics to show you.
