Torque lockup problem

Torque lockup problem

Postby vrojkov » Sat Apr 04, 2009 6:04 pm

Hi guys,
I have a strange problem with my solara.
It's 2002 with 2.4l , AT and 163K miles.

I just noticed that at high speed transmission is not locked up.
Even at 80Mph her revs are disconnected from speed.
So if she is equipped with torque converter and lockup feature ,
than it's not working.
No error codes or other signs of problem , except may be best
MPG is around 28 with all highway driving.
The car is little bit shaky on a stops , but I guess it's not related to this problem.
Any thoughts how I can diagnose and fix this problem.

I flushed my trany fluid about 1 year and 20k miles ago.
Did it at toyota dealership. I am not sure if problem
starts recently or after they flushed transmission.
I just did not pay attention to torque lockup.

If that was the first time the car was ever flushed, then that could be the problem. All that gunk holding your tranny together got loose and is now screwing with other moving parts. Better take it back to the Dealership that did the tranny flush.

Temp gauge stays in the middle , however the car warms up unusually
fast even at a lowest winter temperatures. I am not complaining about that
feature. :)

I will reflush the transmission. I allowed dealership do this for me , after they made a "top quality" diagnostics on my cat with P0420(?) code and
recommended to replace whole cat converter with both sensors for $1150.
I refused and they asked me to pay $110 for the diagnostics. So
I asked them to flush my transmission for $85 ( if they do any
work on your car diagnostics comes free).
Later on I did an anti fauler fix for $4 and 30 minutes of my precious time.:)

+1 for worst Toy dealership in CT

Postby vrojkov » Fri May 01, 2009 8:02 pm

Guys, I found and fixed the problem.

I was just about to refill my transmission fluid and finally decided to check the level.
The tranny was overfilled. I slowly drained the fluid to get to normal level with 2 minutes intervals.
It was like: F..ck, 2 min later check level , F..ck,2 min.. check level ,F..ck .....F,.., F....
In about 15 minutes I drained whole Coke's 2 litter bottle! ( more then 2 quarts)

That fixed my torque lockup problem.

Guys, I payed Branch toyota dealer to flush my tranny and
I didn't even check a level at that time.
If you are in CT please stay away from these toy dumb asses.

I would think the dealer owes you some free products or services for negligence that could have destroyed your transmission. Free case of oil filters? :P
