Trunk alarm? Is it factory?

Trunk alarm? Is it factory?

Postby DrLove » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:31 am

I didn't find a topic about this so Im asking it. On my car I have an alarm for the trunk only. If my doors are lock and the trunk is opening, then the alarm start. I would like to know if this alarm is stock or not and I would like to know if this alarm doing more then just protecting the trunk? I don't have a remote or something else with the car when I bought it.

If it's just a "trunk alarm", I wanna know if there is an extra part available to make a complete alarm system for the Solara...

thanks for your help!

That's unusual... Have you double-checked the doors (e.g. arm it and wait 45 seconds)? Since I have the OEM alarm too, I noticed mine works for the doors, trunk and even the hood, and usually those kind of things are run off the same processor (A 10cm X 10cm 4cm block under your central console storage).

I have no device, button, remote to arm it. The only thing is that if the doors are locks and that I use my key to open the trunk, then the alarm start, the headlights are flashing and the horn is beeping...

I tought that it was only a little silly protection, but I would like to know if it is a bigger alarm so i would need a remote and all to arm it... and if it's the case, how can I set the remote to work with the alarm,etc...

your help is very appreciate here everyone.. I would prefer a OEM alarm then an aftermarket one if it is already in the car!

Sorry about the late response; I've been busy and hoping someone else had a better answer.

Anyway, the OEM system is meant to be disarmed by key or remote... Like I said, have you tried locking the car, waiting 45 seconds and reaching in through an open window to open the car from the inside to see if you have door/other intrusion protection too? I never heard of a trunk-only alarm.

However, the thing about my car is that the trunk can still be opened with the key without incident; but the only way that [I tested] for it to go off is when I lock/arm the car and pull up the internal trunk release lever, or I imagine when someone pries off the keyhole or something.

So, I'm guessing that there's some sort of malfunction in the do-hickey for detecting the key.

Either way, also keep in mind that the Gen1 (at least the 99) doesn't have remote trunk release either.

Thanks NeFaRiOuS_SLE for your help!!

I try what you asked to do, to close the door and open it inside the car with the windows open..and the alarm start!!!

So does it comes with a remote or something? to arm it? or it's just the key who desarm it with the key in the door lock?

thanks for your help it's very appreciate!!

Yeah, your car should (or should have) come with a remote that will arm+lock / disarm+unlock the doors, but like I said, the keys work too. Again, also keep in mind that there's no trunk release button on the remote that's supposed to come with our cars, something that even I'm sick of (esp. when you have your hands full).

sounds like the trunk disarm is inop. when you turn the key in the trunk it should send a ground down a wire to disarm the security system. could be unplugged, broken, etc.

Ok some updates about my keyless remote!

Tonight I've received the remote from Ebay.

I try many many many times to program it with the instructions and it didnt work for 30 mins. Then I went on Solaraguy and saw somebody who were tellign to turn on and off 2 times the key in the ignition (near the end of the instruction) and this time it worked perfectly! :bday: So never desesperate whenyou try it..really it wasn't working and I was doing the right thing wrote on the instruction..and at 10h30 PM I did it.

Im now an happy man with his keyless remote 8) for $15 that's amazing. I had not receive a remote when I bought the car last summer.

So thanks to OKANG who wrote the instructions here that worked for me!
