stock for stock, the 'lara has more balls than a civic or a tiburon...but less than .... oh say....maybe a maxima (can anyone confirm that?)

that's a good deal if it has a clean and clear title....but for some reason, i find that hard to believe considering the low price + low miles.

otherwise, yeah, it's a great deal. i bought my 99 in jan of 06, and it had 91k miles on it, so you're sitting pretty on 66k miles. when i got mine i paid near $10k for it, but i also have a SLE instead of a SE, but the difference between the trim levels isn't worth $3k.

as for 'good first car'....that really depends on your driving preferences. it's a reliable car (it's a toyota). it's a bit oversized for it's class, though (if you're the type who bumps stuff due to bad spacial estimations)...a bit wider and a bit longer than your usual coupe. the upside to that, though, is that there's lots of interior room, despite the coupe setup. there's good visibility from the driver seat out the back window, and the only trouble area for some is that the blind spot is a bit larger than usual (another side effect of being a bit oversized).

it's a front wheel drive car, which is probably better for a first car....since you wont have to worry about fishtailing around a curve, and possibly wrecking it.

that's all i can think of right now....if you have any other, more specific questions, then fire away. this is a great place to find out almost anything about solaras.

Run a carfax and have the car checked by a reputable mechanic.

My Solara was involved in an accident exceeding $10K in repairs yet it had a flawless Carfax when I sold it... I was nice enough to inform the buyer and even provided every receipt for every maintenance / repair ever performed on the vehicle... But that's just me... If it checks out with both, then you found a good deal.

The V6 se has plenty of balls, especially if it has a manual. It's not a race car, but for a simi-luxury coupe it definitely has some go.

They are pretty good in performance but do not expect them to be in the 350Z performance level. It is not a race car but it will get you 0 to 60 in the 7 second range in stock form.

66,000 mi is not too bad for the year but get a mechanic to check it out before you make any deals. They want 6900? try to get it for a bit less.

Still, dude... My advice is to get a car that you don't even fxcking remotely want. Sure, you'll be griping when you get it and wish you don't get caught dead in the m0f0, but now I look back at my 91 Buick Century and don't regret it a bit...

Think of it this way; as a new driver, accidents are a reality so what's better in this case, a car you don't give a rat's ass about (i.e. the kind where you can piss on or play shopping cart football with for a good laugh), or the E30 where you'd get horribly pissed off when some 400-pound fat bitch opens her door all the way and makes a 1/32" barely noticeable nick on the door?
