I just @#$*ing realized the guy who sold me my tires substituted a t-rated tire for the h-rated one I was supposed to get. Boy do I feel stupid!! Anyone out there using t-rated tires w/out any trouble?

What does your receipt or work order say? If it truly says H, then go back and get the right tires.

EDIT: come to think of it, aren't Solara's suposed to run V rated?

Stock is H rated. H rated is for up to 130, but the limiter will cut you off there anyways.

T rated is up to 118. Keep it under that and you'll be fine.

Go back and check the paperwork. The next tire for my lara is going to be H rated (only michelin brand I will buy).

My current Bridgestone Potenza RE92 V tire is not good at wet traction and makes too much noise .

( these tires came with the car when it was bought and the car currently has 18900 miles on it.).

Arent the RE92's H rated? At least they are for the stock 15s and 16s.

I agree, RE92s suck in traction, but they last a long time.

when I first went there, I had the discussion about the speed rating. I said I'd rather not worry about it and put the Yoko avid 4hs on. They are h-rated which is what I wanted. I could have gotten t-rated toyo's for $100 cheaper elsewhere. He calls me like three times. First time it was your brakes are good for a while. Second time it was oh I forgot to tell you that we're out of these tires but I'll give you these (yoko avid trz) which are a better tire for the same price. hmm. No mention of speed rating though. Third time it was cars done come get her. My bad for trusting.

you'd have to drive for quite a long time at 118 before that tire starts to give up on you. but either way...you paid for an H rated tire...go back and get it

He swapped them out no problem. Got the yoko avid h4s which I originally wanted. The speed rating thing is a fascinating subject though. I did some reading on a lot of forums. Does it matter? I don't know. But if that's what Toyota says to use why use something lesser rated. Peace of mind.

oh no! that means you can't go 130+ anymore!!!!

oh the insanity!!!!!!!!

i can careless about what rating they are as long as they grip well in turns and have A/AA temp and traction.

you should check the tires next time you get tires replaced. not saying its entirely your fault, but it is equally your fault for not paying attention when you left the shop.

Actually "speed rating" has a whole lot more to do than just the max speed you're able to sustain over a period of time...

Higher rated tires are better able to control flex and contouring around curves and during braking, whether you're pushing your vehicle or not. They are better for accident prevention and vehicle stability as well.

If you're used to driving on soft tires and you switch to firmer rubber (I'm not even saying V or Z rated), you will notice an IMMEDIATE improvement over how your vehicle holds to the road. It won't roll/sway as much, your braking distance will substantially decrease, your tires wont chirp on curves (unless you're pushing it), etc...

Just some food for thought... So be happy you got them to swap off the Ts...

First off "Mole", having a bad day?? The guy who put them on thought the trz's were h-rated tires. Thanks Prodidgy, you're right about there being more to it. They say the cars suspension also plays into the speed rating as well. H-rated tires have end caps and more glue.

Do all V tires suck at wet traction or is it just the Potenza RE92 ones?

That's more the duty of the tread pattern and types of compounds used. There are many V/Z+ rated tires out there that handle flawlessly in rain (although snow's a different story).

So, I'm guessing that's either the Potenzas you're using, or perhaps you have too much pressure in the tires for the conditions...

you can sue his ass for down grade your speed rating without carefully explanation and your consent. Costco take this issue very seriously and they even refuse to install tires for you if it is different rating than the oem tires.
