CAR RUNNING TOO LEAN

Postby agent007 » Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:26 am

my car was reading too lean and misfiring, now just too lean. what are some of my options...ive replaced the a/f meter, spark plugs, wires, and 2 of 3 coil packs (one that was misfiring and a cracked plug one). what else could it be...any thing would help. cant remember the exact code but i looked it up in the mechanical book and it read system too lean...i no longer have my cai and went back to stock...only upgrade i have now is the greddy catback...??

yes that is an option but wouldnt the code have shot out with the CEL? i have replaced the one after the cat about 2 or 3 years ago but the code read the error... would that be the only other solution though?

if you go to a local auto parts store and buy a repair manual, it show's step by step how to check the 02 sensor. make sure your sensor is a 02 sensor and not a a/f sensor

i have the manual and i have replaced the both a/f sensors about a year ago and on o2 about 2 years ago...cleaned out the throttle and reset cpu and have driven my car for about 3 days now without CEl...will use injector cleaner on next fillup but seems that throttle was just too dirty and hopefully solved my ongoing problem...if not im just taking it to the dealor to mess with that or just shoot my car and bury it...does anyone know what else it may be ?

Could it be a clogged fuel filter? Maybe your just not getting enough fuel, when was the last time you replaced it?

last replaced fuel filter about maybe 3 years ago...and the code was the SYSTEM TOO LEAN the one i think that is P0171 or P0174, i know it was the one fist too lean code in the book so the lowest # one, becasue there are a few that all refer back to one and it was just that one refered to...but like i said it hasnt turned on yet so could the cleaned throttle have helped...logically it could have but i was wondering what the alternative could be in worst case if the CEl turns back on

Are you boosted or no? Any kind of tuning system on your car or stock ECU with bolton parts?

I'm now having this same problem. Sorry if this is thread jacking at its best.
I just got my MAF replaced because I was getting P0171 and they diagnosed it as the MAF, this made the CEL change to SYSTEM TOO LEAN code. Anyone think of anything. I have a CP-E intake but I don't think that would make CEL appear since its "guaranteed".
also my Trac OFF gets tripped and stays on when the tires spin and my CEL is on.
I might also add that the CEL goes on one day and off another. THX in advance.

i know that so many are far more exp than me but if i can help let me know...what upgrades...if you follow my post you can compare with your lara...clean the throttle body...i have had the CEL off for almost a week know and i just refilled the tank today with injector cleaner (really dont even know if this was necessary)...i really feel the cleansing of the TB did the trick...
