Brake pads...what brand?

Brake pads...what brand?

Postby Sol-Toy » Mon May 08, 2006 9:27 pm

I recently swapped out my brake pads with some cheapo auto zone pads. They squeel like nails on a chalk board.

Whats a good brand thats quite? I don't care about performance...just something soft that doesn't squeel or make too much of a dusty mess.

Did you buy some brake lube, cause from the squeel it from the shims movin' back and forth causin' the high pitch squeal.
So go buy like 1 or 2 little packages of brake lube and put some the shims inner and outer pads, and the squeel will go away.

If noise is your only problem what sleeper said is right. That sound is caused by high frequency vibration of the pad. Smear it with grease, anti-sieze or do what I did and buy a bottle of this red goop called disc brake quiet. Apply it very liberally to the backs of the pads and it effectively halts the vibrations.

True that, my front pads are semi-cermaic and they are dusty as a mofo.

Full ceramic pads. I too tried a ceramic-blend (bendix brand) and those dusted like crazy.

I think that OE pads are made by Akebono, I could be wrong though.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I have Hawk HPS on my camry and they're excellent. Inexpensive, low dust, quiet and they have a lot of bite.

I have Porterfield Carbon Kevlar pads on my solara which are unreal, but expensive.
