Button on Console?

Button on Console?

Postby Teamroper » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:34 am

OK, I am going to show my ignorance about this vehicle but here goes. I have a '99 Solara V6 with an automatic trans. Just in front of the shifter in the middle console is a 1/2" X1/2" hole that appears to have possibly had a "plate" on top of it. In this hole is a rubber button that will depress upon pressure however nothing shows up on my dash or anywhere else to show that this may be an overdrive engagement or "turbo shift" button. Does anyone know what this is for and was this a location for an overdrive button for certain models? I have also pushed this button while driving with no effect. Thanks for any info.

Or you may HAVE your keys, but NOT want to start the engine... i.e.: put it into neutral, etc... and in some cases, to remove interior panels (such as radio install...) but not fire the engine, etc...

Yeah, its to disable the shift lock mechanism. As 90 and crisp said. There should be a small cap
that covers it. It just pops off, so someone probably lost it. You might find it under your seat.

Oh, and your overdrive button is on the side of the shifter, it's marked O/D.
Trust me, I'm a technician.
