gold emblems, removing the gold

when i got my solara a year ago, it had the gold package but the gold was fading and it looked bad so i debadged it. yesterday i was cleaning my headlights to make them not look like crap and i read meguiars plastic x worked great. i had some meguiars scratch remover so i tried that and it worked decently. well i was playing around and put some on the one emblem i left on, the toyota logo on the grill. using some elbow grease and the remover, the gold started to come off and the chrome was showing a little.

does anyone know anything better or tips to get the gold off of emblems?

Well you could always sand it down and repaint it. Im planing on doing that sometime myself with the grill and emblem in black.

Maybe a small brush and some paint thinner? But be very careful when you apply the paint thinner? And/Or cover the area your working on with some blue painters tape so you won't chance getting an paint thinner anywhere else besides the Toyota emblem.
