What should I pay for this Solara?

What should I pay for this Solara?

Postby lynchburgcsi » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:40 pm

Hey guys. I recently started posting over here. I use to have a gen3.5 camry over on toyotanation.com, but that was totalled in november. I don't know very much about Solara's yet, except what they share with the Camry. So. I'd like to get a price quote on what you guys think this is worth. It has 212k on the body, 80k on the 1MZ engine. Also has the 5-speed tranny. And judging form the color it's a 2001 model...I think.

I'd just like to know what you guys would pay for this car. And maybe a few issues you think I should look into. Thanks!!! :)

considering the ripped up interior and the worn out exterior (btw, are those aftermarket amber side markers on the front fender?), i'd say the only thing you'd be paying for is the s/c and engine/tranny

it'd consider it for between $2k - $3500 USD

check the timing belt and the carfax.

this car seems a bit abused!

Shave the gold emblems, paint or buy a new chrome grill, sand the headlights +PlastiX, remove the steering wheel cover, do a compund, wax, and this car will look nice! it takes just love and few $$ to make it shine again.

Somewhere under $3k. It depends on how well it runs.
You have a lot to negotiate with, considering the condition of the car.

EDIT:
Hey, I just noticed somethings. Is the key in the ON position in the pics? The temp. gauge is showing a reading, but the other gauges aren't. Seems strange. Even the Odometer is off. There might be something wrong with the temp. gauge.

Also:

-What's the deal with the boost gauge reading slightly above 0 when it's turned off? Might not function correctly.

-Those front fender lights shouldn't be there.

-It's missing the mudguards, I'd bet it was kitted.

-If it isn't lowered, I don't think it is, it probably used to be.

Thoroughly check EVERYTHING, and take pics if you can. Get a shot of the engine bay and the trunk. Check for TRD parts, FSTB, RSB.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Why start with a car that has been molested. The SC has been used and abused. Start with a grandma owned model. This will give you a car that will last for a long time, and give you time to do mods the correct way. This car is a ticking time bomb. Stay away...

And...IF you make the wrong decision and decide to buy this car do not base your price on any mods this vehicle has. Every seller knows that when modding a car, you do not raise the value of the car, and it is likely that you will never see the money back. In most cases (such as this one) i would consider it a negative to buy a modded car. You can assume a couple things right off the bat. The owner was young, irresponsible (we all began here, you all know), and the car was driven harder than the typical car on the road, probably mistreated. With a good owner a car would never end up in the condition this vehicle is in. People who care about their cars don't allow them to get in this condition. Just some food for thought.

REAL TALK

This guy is right, listen. ANybody ho care about his car, maintenance, would not let the car become like that. It seems like a car that this owner bought from a guy who modded and took care about his car, but this seller got the car modded and just abused her and never took care of maintenance. I would not pay a lot for this car. FOr sure like I said before U can easly fix lots of the esthetic stuff, but when a car looks like that, there is lot of major issue who will come soon.

Buy a grandma convertible Gen1 ($$) or a grandma hardtop gen1 and you will enjoy modding her like u want. Most esthetic part doesnt cost a leg and an arm. The supercharger is a + but the V6 is already enough to have some fun to drive.

Did this owner care? There is one picture that includes the gas pedal. Why is there a wire dangling?

All the points raised in the previous threads about the condition should be alarm bells. Do you want to inherit someone elses problems?

Another will come along, let it go.

If u have a bunch of money to put into it, and access to a shop to do the work maybe its worth a grand or so.

If you dont. Unless you wanna be driving around a broke down, worn to sheet car dont buy it.... Been there b4, it sucks. lol
