Camry pulling left or right problem

Camry pulling left or right problem

Postby EricSol » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:55 pm

Was there ever a fix for the Camry's pulling left or right problem? I remember when I bought mine new alot of others had a pulling problem and the dealers never could figure it out. I didn't pay much attention to it since mine never did. Well it has reared its ugly head, I'm pulling to the right. I bought new tires, disassembled the lower control arms and checked the urethane bushings, lower ball joints, ect.....I'm at a lost. For those who don't know I have the TRD spring and shock combo since day one with all rubber bushings long ago replaced by Energy urethane's. I did a google search and it seems to this day some Camry's still suffer from it.

lol i wanted to ask that but i didnt want to b/c i would think if he got new tires might as well go with an alignment.

sometimes could be something as easy as the air pressure.
Either way if your lowered. The only thing you can adjust is toe. you can't adjust camber or caster. The only way to keep it driving straight is to probably getting a camber kit, and leave it the closest you can to factory specs.

camber or toe wont make a car pull, only caster and its non adjustable. The question is about cars with good alignments, tires that pull.....it is a common Camry problem

check your calipers and see if the slider pins are allowing the caliper to move freely. Thats often overlooked. Can;t think of anything else.

First thing I checked was if a caliper was dragging. There was a TSB issued for the problem, if somebody could reprint it???

i wonder if its not just that certain tires cause this issue to show. my car i bought with oem 16" rims and yokohama tires and it would pull left alot but sometimes id be driving and id notice the problem was gone, it would come and go. this was not due to the slant of the road cuz i paid attention to that, it would randomly go straight or pull. i never did get the alignment checked cuz i never got around to it. i bought 18" wheels from another forum member and it has much improved just from that, anyway i think tires may be a big part of it. (my car is oem suspension and steering)
IF not the tires i would think suspension, maybe yours being the trd was much better at first than the regular system, but yours is starting to wear. i searched the web and found many different answers, heres a couple:

1) the problem resides in the springs and that the mechanic needs to rotate the spring within the perch 1/4" to fix the left pull.

2) the mechanic needs to remove the struts, compress the springs, and move the upper insulator 25MM
counter clockwise.

Hope this helps

Actually camber can make your car pull, it will pull to the side with the most camber. You can also adjust your caster by taking a die grinder to the strut mount holes and elongating them.

The only other things i can think would be some bent part, or a difference in ride height from side to side. If you get and alignment make sure they check the SAI and included angle

Tires can cause a "radial pull" 1st thing I did was replace them. I knew it was something with the springs or perch......thanks for the info, I'll be trying that.
